Need Tripod Help

Hello:

I hope none of you mind a Yank intruding on your forum. I am a professional photographer in Washington State, USA. Our state is located in the Pacific Northwest of our country. I have been to the UK several times and enjoyed it greatly. I began my professional career in 1971. I am a certified professional by the Professional Photographers of America. I own two studios, we have our own lab. I welcome any UK visitors who might travel this far.

Several years ago I purchased a Uni-loc tripod manufactured in England. The North American distributer has gone out of business and these tripods are no longer available in the states. I have an address and telephone number from 1999 listed as Uni-Loc Products Ltd., Firbank Way, Leighton Buzzard LU7 8YJ. Tel 01525 372030. I am sorry to say I am a bit ignorant on how to reach this firm from the U.S.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance in determining if these tripods are still being manufactured and if so, where, and how to contact them.

I have had a quick look around and Uniloc are still listed as tripod suppliers in the UK with the address and phone number that you have. Can't find any direct web link for them. Uniloc search comes up with all sorts of entries but I can't get much sense from any of them. Uniloc tripods are for sale on UK e-bay. In the US Compare digital cameras at Digital Foto Club - Home and portable electronics, appliances, housewares and more list Uniloc products but their website has baffled me. Try them and see if you have better luck.

A US based Google search might bring up better results, otherwise just use the old fashioned method of pen and paper and write to Uniloc at the address you have and ask for a list of US importers. Either way the company appears to still be trading in tripods.

I am having trouble tracking this company down in the UK on the web anyway. You can try dialling their number from the States which is 044 1525 372030. There are however, many suppliers of Uniloc tripods here in the UK and many are on the web. Just do a google uk search on the company name and you should find many. If you have more trouble PM me and I will give some details. Good luck

Thanks for the information. I can't get the website to come up but I have e-mailed them and am waiting for a reply.

I have used Uni-loc tripods for years and dearly love them. They seem to be better built then those by Benbo. It is my understanding that the same person designed both, with the Uni-loc being the latter. While being a bit on the heavy side, their versatility more than compensates. While not widely used in the States they do have a small group of enthusiasts.

The North American distributor was located in Toronto, Canada but has closed up shop.

I really appreciated everyones assistance in this matter. If I can be of assistance to any of my British friends please let me know.

Well, no luck. The e-mail came back as undeliverable. I wonder if these guys are still in business. Maybe not and the web information is out of date. If any of you are going to be at a local camera store that has carried Uni-loc, could you please ask if they know if they are still available?

Made a few enquiries on your behalf and spoke to Uni-Loc products this morning. They are still trading and should be able to supply anything you need direct from the UK. Apparantly they don't currently have a web site or email facilities, nor do they have an agent in the US at present.

Warehouse Express have reasonable stocks of Uni-Loc products but do not ship outside Europe.

Your best bet is to phone Uni-Loc direct on 044 1525 372030 or Fax 044 1525 371 055, they would be more than happy to ship to the US.
