You can download a free EXIF reader, (Just do a google search for EXIF reader.) then when you view the image full size, right click and select the view EXIF info. Your shots are a mixture of ISO 1600 and 800. Did you use some form of noise removal? They seem to be extremely noise free for ISO 1600. |

I could do with a course or lesson on software, I think at the moment I have got more than enough on for my few brain cells trying to get the camera sussed. I know one thing I have got to get a monopod. I find it hard to hold the image still in the view finder.

| | | Re: Still trying can't wait for decent weather Hi well done I can see a big improvement in your pics from earlier on they are vastly improved and its starting to come together you are still slightly lacking in the correct focus point it is still slightly off but you are getting there well done.
Good points you have now started to isolate your subject from the background well done the grey squirrel and the Nuthatch with seed in mouth looking to the right on top of rock are the better of the images as far as focus goes the rest slightly out but well done keep going as far as noise goes cannot see much at all
Going by your post above you definately need a tripod/monopod to help stabalise the camera when taking the pics especially if using a long lens

The squirrel is good, and is even better with a little balancing and sharpening.
The Great Tit does look like a high ISO image, there's a slight loss of detail, but considering the conditions, impressive.
What I'd have been tempted to do with some of these would have been to apply some fill in flash, especially as the conditions were so dull.
Lately a few of us have been experimenting with all sorts of flash attachments, but even the cameras small flash (if it has one!) will help lift the image, increase the contrast and colour, at the risk of some slightly weird eye reflections! |

| | | Re: Still trying can't wait for decent weather Must agree, for the ISO speeds used these are decent photos. We all struggle in low light conditions like we are experiencing at the moment. As Graham mentioned flash is an option. Look at it this way, you have taken some decent shots in poor light so when we get some decent light your shots will definitely be better, and they are already greatly improved on your first uploads.
As for the last Great Tit you posted, it could be improved slightly with software but the white on the birds cheek is over exposed and the detail in the white has been lost, and being shot in jpeg you are never going to really get that back. Try and remember that anything that has noticeable areas of white like this or Swans, Magpies etc do need to be under exposed by at least -2/3rds of a stop if shooting jpeg.
Regards
Roger

Roger | Cheers for the tips, I will start shooting in raw, the trouble is at the moment my knowledge of using software is very limited, I can reduce file size, crop, and tried a few attempt's to follow on line tutorials in photo elements, I can pop colour and frame photos I must learn to understand raw. Another thing I am struggling with is the software that came with my 400d, it states it does not reconise the camera yet the laptop states I have connected the 400d
