| | | Landscape or Portrait Format Two shots taken at Winskill Stones - a Plant Life reserve on the hill above Settle - I was trying out a new Canon 10 - 20mm Zoom. Was very pleased with the results but am not sure which of the two I prefer:
I think on balance it's the portrait format one, anybody else agree/disagree.

| | | Re: Landscape or Portrait Format Both! I think the portrait one perhaps makes a 'better' picture and conveys the linear nature of the rocks while the landscape does what it says - gives a better impression of the landscape! |

| | | Re: Landscape or Portrait Format I think the sky in the landscape is a lot more dramatic and really draws your attention to the centre of the photograph. Great photo |

| | | Re: Landscape or Portrait Format Rob,
When faced with a subject like yours, I do as you have done, and shoot in both formats. That way you can choose between the images as the mood takes you. I prefer the portrait format as it has strong lead-in lines which you have made good use of with a wide lens: they lead the eye to the focal point-the tree, which is superbly placed in the frame. For me, lots of foreground with wide angle lenses is my usual approach.

| | | Re: Landscape or Portrait Format Thanks for the comments folks - I'm still not really decided. I think it comes down to the sky in the landscape versus the strength of the foreground in the portrait. Rich has the answer I guess take both!

| | | Re: Landscape or Portrait Format Very difficult to choose between either as they are both superb. If they were mine I would most definitely use both of them.

| | | Re: Landscape or Portrait Format I always take both Portrait and Landscape formats for any scenic picture - you then have the choice. Like has been said some people prefer portrait some landscape - you can now please both at no cost!
