| | | Lens Help Hi everyone,
Just a bit of help needed....I have been offered 3 Lenses but I am not sure whether it is worth me getting all three or any at all. Just looking for a bit of help as to what the leses are used for, and I think they all fit my Canon 400D but just to check that too....
They are:
Sigma 70-210mm AF
Canon EF 80-200mm
Canon EF 24mm 2.8

It would help if you told us what/how/when you intend to photograph, then we could offer more informed advice. As for the Sigma, if it's in a Canon fitting, then yes, it probably will.

As the sigma 70-210 and the canon 80-200 are so close in spec. it would seem a waste of money buying both, the canon 24 - f2.8 would be a good general purpose / landscape lens which with its relatively wide apperture could be useful in low light conditions, however its focal length falls rather awkwardly between ' wide angle' and 'standard' when used on a
400d The bottom line is what they are going to cost you and what use you will make of them. Hope this helps a little.

| | Re: Lens Help Hi. It s important to know the max apertures of both the zoom lenses. The web search I did shows the Canon 80-200mm as f2.8, whereas a search on the Sigma shows a 70-210mm f5.6 and a 70-210 f2.8.
If the choice is Canon f2.8 or Sigma f5.6 then go for the Canon. If they are both f2.8 then check the AF speed. I know the older Sigmas are a little slower then the newer ones. Worth checking before you decide.

David | all good advice - and also if the sigma is old it may not be digital compatible so physically check before parting with cash
tho that said i agree with the others you dont need the sigma and the canon 80-200 anyway so if you cant inspect them than play safe and just buy the canon.

Sigma used to offer a re-chipping service but I believe this is no longer available. Also the Canon is much more likely to hold its used price should you ever decide to part with it.

David | i think they can still do it but its not cheap (arround 35 notes if you can prove you owned the lens from new - rather more than that if you can't) but it isnt possible on all their old lenses anyway
