| | How much do you carry My camera back seems to be forever getting heavier. Yesterday I weighed it before I went out - 31lb (about 14Kg). That was with a litre of water, but before I put the waterproofs in. On top of this the tripod weights about 10lb (5Kg) .
Carried this all day, sometimes through mud half way to my knees (Gloucestershire ), I'm knackered . Did get some good dragons, butterflies & crickets though
Just wondered what other here carry. |

| | | Re: How much do you carry I've got a nice field bag that was a gift from the Isle of Jura whisky distillery some years back.
Aside from my FZ50 (normally carried on my belt) the bag usually contains:
Olympus TCON-14 teleconverter
Small pair of binoculars (10x25)
Magellan GPS Receiver
Motorola VHF two-way
Geiger counter
Notebook & Pen/Pencil
Small pocket knife
Couple of Mars bars or Twix
Bottle of Lucozade/Orange
That's if I'm going out for a photography session. If I'm just bumming round the beach it's usually just the FZ50. |

| | | Re: How much do you carry 41lb of equipment to photograph dragonflies what on earth do you take??
Normally I lock all I might need in the boot of my car but actually carry only what I intend using. I try and keep what I carry to a minimum.
For Bird/Mammal photography I carry only body, lens, spare batteries and memory cards. These fit into the LowProw Lens Trekker backpack affair, onto which I attach a water bottle, my binoculars and 1.4xTC all in separate LowPro cases. I also carry either a tripod or a beanbag.
For Insect photography the lenses are lighter so the problem is not so great, but I still don’t like to be cluttered. If the weather is fine then I take my camera body with lens and 1.4xTC attached, mounted on my tripod. I carry a water bottle on my belt and spare batteries and memory cards in my pockets I prefer not to use flash so there is no extra weight there. If the weather looks dodgy I take a LowePro top-loader that will hold my camera with lens attached. The TC, batteries etc will fit into this case also.

| | | Re: How much do you carry I have a pinched nerve in my back,so I have started to carry only waterproofs and binos
(along with my Pettersson Bat detector) and a silva compass in a Karrimor Airspace 25
My Dslr (when repaired or replaced)will travel in a Lowepro Off Trail (to keep the weight on my hips not my back)and a Benbo monopod which doubles as a trail stick

Taken with a 500/4.5 and 1.4 convertor. My only half decent pic of a Brown Hawker so far. You just never know when something good will turn up. |

| | | Re: How much do you carry blimey, you're all carrying loads!
usually i carry (ahem)...
1. 1ltr water
2. packet of kendal mint cake/ ham butties
3. sunhat / waterproofs
4. my camera (half way between point and shoot and DSLR, so no lenses and stuff)
5. camera tripod (my dad's, it weighs about 1kg)
6. lightweight firstaid kit + whistle and mobile phone
if i'm out for proper long shots i borrow my mates digi adaptor gear and carry a scope & c-lux camera instead of mine!
this weighs, approx 4kg (with my camera) and 5kg max with the scope....ummm, that's, what, about 9/11lbs?

| | | Re: How much do you carry Most of the time all i`m usually carrying is my fz20 in a basic small camera case, which houses spare batteries,an extra memory card or two and a couple of macro filters. If I`m taking the tripod(Manfrotto Modo 785b) its small enough to carry with one leg threaded through the belt loop on the camera case.Flash and bounce card if taken, goes into a pocket in my combat jacket. My Raynox dcr1540 tcon goes in another pocket if i`m taking it with me. Once the gears assembled the camera case is strapped round my waist like a bumbag so it doesnt get in the way.Sometimes the camera with tcon fitted is just shoved in a cheap rucksack attached to the tripod so its quick to set up/put away....usually if theres a chance of rain.
A lot of my photography is at local sites i have to walk to (I don`t drive)plus osteoarthritis in my knee joints means carrying a heavy rucksack isn`t an option.I do house all my gear in a Hama photorucksack(bought cheap off Ebay)which is pretty much the same as a Lowepro mini trekker. This very rarely leaves the house though.

| | | Re: How much do you carry As it is now the insect season, I carry my FZ30 with Raynox DCR150 already attached in a LowePro bag fixed to my belt. I usually start off with everything else in my LowePro rucksack until I get off the bus and am ready to start walking. Most of my trips are circular and I pack everything away before getting on the bus for the return journey. I carry my Canon 30D hanging around my kneck with pump attached. The 1.4 TC is in pocket of one of these fisherman's weskits and my hat in another. My bins are on a strap running through a D ring on the rucksack shoulder strap and are readily to hand. My monopod is slung from my shoulder, hung on a rucksack strap or attached to the camera. If I take my scope, it is either in a pocket or back in the rucksack. Waterproofs are either worn or packed away. I also take a flask of coffee and a box of food. Not a pretty sight, but I find this setup practical, easy to get at, and flexible enough to meet most of my needs. |

| | | Re: How much do you carry I have a Nova 5 and in it is a 5D with a 24-105 lens fitted, a 50mm 1.8 lens, a 70-300 Sigma APO DG Macro, a 100-400L pump, an 18-55mm kit lens, a 430 flash and a EOS 300 film camera and a supply of film. And around my neck is a 350D with a 16-35mm 2.8L USM lens and a BG-E3. Batteries and filters go in the side pocket of the Nova 5. I get my wife to bring the Fuji S7000.
The cameras travel in a Peli case while the Nova 5 and a smaller case go in my case filled with clothing. On arrival the clothing comes out and the cameras go in. If I had a backpack I would most likely attach a tripod to it. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
