| | | Still not got the Knack! Hi there,
As some of you will remember I have been having some difficulties in getting the Knack of Macro Photography and I still feel I have miles to go.
Due to the poor weather I have not been able to or Brave Enough to go out there and grab some images.
But whilst in the Green House I Spotted this Spider (Name not yet found)
Your comments are fully welcomed, as this is the only way I can learn.
Regards

That's not a bad photograph at all, it shows good detail, nice colour and a very nice background. It's sharp without being overdone and I would be happy with it. I think it's a Garden Spider - Araneus diadematis

It's very sharp however, I feel the background (the brown) detracts from the spider's golden colours and I like images with a nice contrast. This could be easily fixed by taking the shot from a different angle. This is just me being pernickety though.
Keep shooting

| | | Re: Still not got the Knack! there's nothing particularly wrong with that shot, but spider images taken from above are often a bit lifeless. Instead, try to take a head-on or side-on shot and you'll find the results are a lot more striking. It's not always easy when they're facing downwards in a web (although it can be done), so you may be better off looking for spiders and insects that are in more promising positions. Here are a couple of examples of spider shots. I'm not claiming they're great, but you can hopefully see that the head-on or side-on viewpoint offers more potential. |

| Now come on Matt, you know those shots are great
@ DrJimmy, have you cropped the image? It does look like your camera was at or near it's limits their - you have done very well getting a very tricky subject like that! |

That's just not playing by the rules, I take it newbies are good sport on this site
Hey it don't bother me, just means I need to pick me game up and compete better and harder.
Which in the long run, makes us all better photographers.

Yes there is a slight crop top and left hand side just a fraction.
the spider was a big brute, by the time I had fetched me saddle, he had walked off
Could not regrettably get a decent angle on him as he was perched 2" off the glass.
I took 100 Pictures all angles, different F-Stops and this is the only one I liked.
