| | | wide angle lens Hi All
Looking for some help from you.
I need to buy a wide angle lens for my Canon 40d, not one that will break the bank but a good one that will give reasonable quality, I have £200 - 400 pounds to spend, but if I don't have to fine.
I want to do a bit of Landscape and scenic photography
My main pics are of wildlife, birds moths butterflies etc, so this is going to give me a little bit of variation on the days when your out and about and faced with a beautiful landscape and would just love to take a shot.
I know a lot of you do landscape photography and some of the pictures in the Gallery are excellent, so any advice will be gratefully accepted
Thanks
Mick

| | | Re: wide angle lens Do you mean Canon 400D cos if you have a 40D a lot of people will be really jealous as it's only a rumour
Because of the crop factor you may want to go for something like the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM or Sigma 15-30mm F3.5-4.5 EX DG both sub £300 or someting a little more universal then how about the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro about £220 |

I use the EF100mm Macro and its very good not just for the macro work but also for animal portrait work.

| | | Re: wide angle lens Depends how wide you want. For landscapes I went for the Canon 17-40 L f4 which is a cracking lens - not sure if there is a rebate going on this lens at the moment but I bought mine about 5 months ago and with the rebate it cost around £350 |

| | | Re: wide angle lens I use a Nikon but I can recommend an AF 20mm f/2.8 as a nice landscape lens.
I like to use it with a circular polarising filter for the improved sky and water appearance. |

| | | Re: wide angle lens I've got a sigma 18-200, which is a brilliant all round
walk-about lens, though no doubt reviews will say it
a little soft compared to other lenses with a smaller zoom
range.
18mm on the d30 is = 28mm on a full frame sensor.
If you really want wider for landscapes have you
thought about panoramics and stitching - some
remarkable results around the web. |

| | | Re: wide angle lens Hi, I use and recommend the sigma 10-20mm. It’s a cracking lens, very sharp, fast focusing (do you need this on a landscape lens?) and very light. For such a wide lens barrel and pincushion distortions are at a minimum. At 10mm you can get some seriously wide vistas shots, but due to the warping of perceptive at this focal length I’ve found it’s taken some practice to get the best out of it. That said it’s a fun lens and I’m really enjoying using it, my favourite lens in my quiver at the mo! If you do get one don’t forget to take out a longer focal length lens with you, a number of times I’ve only taken out the 10-20mm when I could have done with my little’ma at hand. Retails around £280, second hand for about £200 leaving change to buy extra large filters! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
