| | | Re: wide angle lens ive also got a sigma 10-20 but having used it i believe the 12-24 to be a better lens for technical reasons i'm not even going to attempt to explain the 12-24 has a wider angle of view than the 10-20.
i alsi have a sigma 18-125 which was built for cropped digital sensors and thus actual delivers 18 at the wide end , the only problem is that you cant use it on a full frame camera as you get major vignetting

| | | Re: wide angle lens Has anyone got the tokina 12-24mm? I am looking to buy a wide angle lens and this one seems to have good reviews. Just wondering if anyone would recommend this over the sigma 12-24mm or tamron 11-18mm |

the zoom & focus rings are smoother in use (better damping/tolerances) and the surface finish on the lens looks to be more durable - don't know about the picture quality between them though... suppose thats the most important aspect really |

| | | Re: wide angle lens If you're after a mid-range, wide angle zoom then it might be worth considering the Sigma 18-50mm DC f/2.8 EX.
I have one for my 30d. I hardly use it as I usually have a telephoto lens on but on the odd occasion when I want to take a few landscape or indoor shots it hasn't let me down.
Being compact and light it is very easy to hide in the corner of the camera bag when not in use.
I'm sure the Canon 17-40mm f/4 is slightly better technically but I chose this because of price, size, weight and the constant f/2.8. |

| | | Re: wide angle lens For value for money, Canons own standard accessory 18 - 55 as suplied with 400d etc. gives excellent results and can be bought for as little as thirty pound or so second hand on the auction site, I use mine regularly and have taken some most acceptable pictures with it, if as you say you mostly use a longer lens, this one will go in your pocket easily and if it does get damaged it won't cost a fortune to replace.

| | | Re: wide angle lens Another Sigma 10-20mm user. I find it to be a fine lens, couldn't want anything better. It's very versatile, makes a surprisingly good close up lens.
Here's a flower shot as an example:
I like to use it as a walk about lens if I'm in my townscape mode.
Here's a couple of shots from last Christmas:
Not sure what you can learn from these though, other than I love the lens! |

| | | Re: wide angle lens I agree with Blackbrook eye, and like Galanthus have a Canon 10-22mm for my 350D, when i use it. At the price the 18-55mm Canon standard lens must be great value for money. Neither of these have ever let me down or disappointed me.
