| | | Newbie first ever upload Hi all
I have been lurking around for a while now. This is my first upload. I took this shot of a woody in the crab apple tree in my garden. Has anybody got an opinion.

It's not a bad shot in itself, the only thing that spoils it is that unfortunately it closed it's eye at the time you took the shot. Nothing much wrong with the focus it's pretty sharp, would maybe benefit from a touch more contrast.
Hope this helps

I agree with Ollie's comments and would also add that if you'd shifted the frame slightly to the left you would have avoided chopping the tail off. I know the recommendation is to give the bird space to "look into" in the frame but when you're this close on the subject I would be more inclined to fill the frame and try to get the whole bird in.
I sympathise over the closed eye. Some of my sharpest and best composed shots have been in mid-blink. It's called s*d's law!
Now that you've de-lurked why not post some more?

| | | Re: Newbie first ever upload Well Done. As a new member myself I know how hard it is to fathom out how to download photos and get them the right size etc. I had a really hard time doing this. Let alone worry about the composition of the photo itself!!
I like the photo very much although I suppose a real pedant would say is it possible to get more contrast between the woody's head and the sky!!
Best of luck and I look forward to more of your WAB entries. |

| | | Re: Newbie first ever upload I actually like the fact its eyes are closed, makes it looks like it is sunning itself. It's more of an issue when people close their eyes in group pics, ruins it everytime. |

| | | Re: Newbie first ever upload I'll bet there are many more pictures of woodpigeons with eyes open. This is such a good pic, I bet there's a story somewhere that a sleepy looking woodpigeon photo would slot very happily into.... I like it anyway |

| | | Re: Newbie first ever upload Thanks for all the feedback on this shot. I do have the same shot but with the eyes open, but I don't like is as much as this. we all have are opinions and I always like to hear others.
