| | | Re: Focus Stacking The full program can be downloaded by: -
# google combinezm
# click on the link for Combine ZM - INDEX, and a page headed CombineZ Movie (CZM) opens.
# click on the link "go here" on the very first line, and the CombineZM News page opens.
# Look for the part that says "For new users here are four versions of the installation package".
# the link for the full program download is located on the next line, immediately after the bold print words "Full Versions". The link is named CombineZM.msi - (Note if you download the CombineZM.msi on the line below that, you don't get the help files).
As far as I'm aware, the program still operates with XP as well as Vista. (Before I downloaded it, I asked people who were using it with XP, whether it was actually compatible with Vista).
Note that you will need to remove any previous version that you tried to install before installing the download again. (As always, it is good practice to create a Windows restore point before installing any new software, just in case you do get problems. Then at least you can always restore your machine to it's previous configuration). There is various info on the website including FAQ's etc. which I would suggest that you read, to satisfy yourself that the download is compatible with your machine.
There is actually a newer version named CombineZP, but I have never tried to install or use that one.
There is also another program named Zyrene Stacker, which is highly regarded by experienced Photostackers. I haven't tried that, because it is only currently available as a trial version, which I understand ultimately becomes inoperable after a certain time period/number of stacks.

| | | Re: Focus Stacking Thanks Mike, I will follow your instructions and have a bash.
I must say, there are some cracking photographs. If any of my shots look half as good as those posted, I will be chuffed as meatballs.
I am away for a couple of days, but I am taking my camera with me and hopefully get a good result.
It would be interesting to know what cameras, lenses etc. are used in the posted shots.
Once again, thank you.

| | | Re: Focus Stacking The few that I have done so far (all of fungi) have all been results from a Nikon D80/Sigma 180mm macro lens combination.
I note comments regarding alternative image stacking software on another thread, and whilst it would be nice to have several options at ones disposal, I'm finding that CombineZM does what I need more than adequately. I'm extremely impressed with its ease of use.
I too shy away from installing beta/trial versions of software with limited usage times. I therefore applaud Alan Hadley, the originator/software developer for making the full, and non time-limited program, available.

Mike. | Unfortunately CombineZM only works on PC (I think) and as a Mac user I have to use Zerene which I find very good and would pay for a full licence but I'm having difficulties at the moment with it constantly quitting on itself - a conflict to do with memory allocation I think. I had a quick try at correcting the problem following the advice on their website but it hasn't helped.
