| | | Chromatic Aberration Yesterday I submitted a shot of a Tawny Owl. It appeared ok but when it was pointed out it had a blue fringe I was quite surprised as I did not notice it on my original. I have gone back to the RAW file and just clicked on the chromatic aberration slider and applied. What do you think - any better?
The lighting was very strong in the gaps betweeen the leaves, it is more than 3 stope brighter than the shade & owl.
If there is anyone who wants to have a go at the RAW let me know I will send it.
Jon

| | | Re: Chromatic Aberration That's a bit better Jon, but it is still there to a degree. I wonder whether you would have got this to the same extent without the extender, I suspect not.
I didn't know there was a chromatic aberration slider - is this on PS CS2? I only use PSE5 and I don't think it has this (although I'll check). The only alternative way to remove it would be to highlight the purple areas using the magic wand tool (viewing the image at 200% or more) and remove the colour. It's not perfect but it can work quite well. I did notice a touch of it on one of my images the other day, it was the first time I'd noticed it.

Try the following link: Photoshop for Photographers
From the left hand menu select 'Preparation' then 'Purple Fringe'
Hope it helps

| | | Re: Chromatic Aberration Thanks very much Ollie & Richard I will have a go. By the way you are not teaching grannie to suck eggs, I have never had to do this before so I reckon it probably is something to do with the converter.

| | | Re: Chromatic Aberration I also sometimes get a bit of chromatic aberration when shooting subjects against a much brighter background. I've recently started using Adobe Lightroom as my raw converter and it has a couple of sliders for correcting it, one for red/cyan and one for blue/yellow. I'm still learning to use it but it seems to handle it quite effectively. Here's a blackbird with the uncorrected image on the left and with the blue/yellow slider set to -80 on the right...
