| | | Viewing photos on DVD player ? Is it possible to save photos on a DVD that can then be viewed on a DVD player? I'd like to do this for an Aged Parent who doesn't have a PC.

| | | Re: Viewing photos on DVD player ? Hi Tursiops,
Depends entirely on the make & model of the DVD player. Mine is a Pioneer DVR-420H and I can use it to view jpegs burned onto a CD (R or RW). I can put the pics in different folders on the disc and then select which folder to view as a slideshow. I believe that it's even possible to put a music track on too but haven't experimented with this.
Oddly enough, it doesn't work with DVD-R or RWs and I can only assume it's because these use a different file system to CDs.
If I want a slide-show on DVD I have to use video editing software like Pinnacle Studio and add each photo as a still image. The good thing about this is that you can add transitions between the pictures, change the duration of each, add a soundtrack and adjust the length of the slideshow to fit the music, etc. The bad thing is that it's a lot more time consuming than just copying the pictures to a disc which is why I've only ever done it the once. My wife has been researching her family history and discovered that one of her great uncles was killed in the First World War trenches at the ripe old age of 18 and is buried in St. Omer. No one from the family had ever visited the grave so she went over and laid a poppy wreath. I took video and stills to show to the family members who are now a bit too old to make the journey and I put a slide show on as a "DVD Extra" with a soundtrack of Albinoni's Adagio in G. It was very effective - there wasn't a dry eye in the house. |

T2 | Hi
There’s quite a few different pieces of software to allow you to create your own DVD’s to play in a player. You can also have this done for you by various internet sites (at a price but you don’t really get the control you often need).
Here are a few options but there are many more! Some are also free on the Web.
DVD Photo Slideshow
Microsoft Photo Story 3 – Free if you have a legal version of XP
Photo2dvd
Photos on CD & DVD 2.0 DeLuxe
Premiere Pro – Quite advanced but very good
ProShow Gold
Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6
Ulead® CD & DVD PictureShow 4
Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder
Nero
My favourites are Roxio, Ulead and Photo2DVD
Btw you can also add your own music or commentary!
Basically what the software does is to create a video stream which can then be burned to CD/DVD in different video formats i.e. VCD, SVCD, DivX, DVD etc.
Hope this helps

| Do check the compatibility with your parent's machine too as some older players and some from the cheaper end of the market won't play every format. |

| | Re: Viewing photos on DVD player ? You don’t need to burn a specially formatted disc but just a regular data DVD full of digital photos if you own a DVD player with built-in slide-show features for viewing JPEG images.
If your DVD player doesn’t have such features, creating DVD photo slide shows via apps will be help and it is a much more stunning and professional way for storage and share.
I recommend Wondershare Movie Story which is a professional software that can create DVD photo slideshows with photos, video clips and music and publish MPEG/AVI/WMV/MP4/3GP for Youtube or burn CD/DVDs. What it attract me is its plenty 2D/3D transitions and Ken-Burns effects.
CD or DVD created by DVD Slideshow Builder 4 can actually play in the DVD player, you can enjoy your own movie on TV.
Find more from its official website: http://www.photo-to-dvd.com/movie-story.html
Hope it helps. |

| | | Re: Viewing photos on DVD player ? I've used Magix's Photos on CD & DVD 3.0 DeLuxe for a few years now and its very good. All our Holidays snaps are put on DVD using it. I add captions, comentary and music to enhance the veiwing experience. For instance, for our French Foray I searched for and added French accordion music.
I didn't realise what a skill it is to match appropriate music to the subject.
