| | MAC or PC? Hi,
I recently bought a macbook pro with a view to using aperture to edit some of my photos. Learning to use a mac having spent years using Windows has been a learning experience! The worst lesson was when I managed to corrupt my external hard drive when I connected it up to the macbook. Luckily, there were no photos on the drive so I lost nothing, but it has made me very nervous about editting my photos on the macbook now.
I was just wondering what everyone else uses - Mac or PC and why?
Thank you! |

I use a PC running windows vista.
Reason being I was introduced to computers through my job and consequently when I bought one at home it was a PC.
Saying that though I have heard nothing only praise about the MAC and have often thought about swapping to one but guess after more years than I care to remember I'm a bit stuck in my ways. Hence the reason I still use a PC |

I'd say stick to what you are used to using both systems do all the things you need to do.

When I needed a new laptop in 1997 I took the plunge and bought a Macbook. I ran both systems for about a year as there were some programs I needed that weren't available/as good on Mac at that time. However I soon realised that switching on the Mac was a pleasurable experience but I hated firing up Windows XP. At that point I bought an iMac and have since added a MacbookPro.
The PC still sits sulking in the corner but hasn't been turned on for months as there is nothing it can do that the Macs can't.
I do lots of heavy duty photo and video editing on Macs with no problems (it's the system most pros use), so don't be nervous of editing on it. Stick with it and I'm sure you'll soon love it

| | | Re: MAC or PC? As others have said - they're all much of muchness and it's mainly what you're used to! One area in which Windows has an advantage is in running spreadsheets, databases and mathematical/statistical programmes: most of these are not made for Mac and/or are not very good so you have to use an emulator which slows down the process or crashes it! |

| | | Re: MAC or PC? Mac is the best but I could never afford one but I have just watched my son complete his new power PC (for under £1000) it loaded Windows 7 in around 15 minutes, awsome and affordable. i5 processor, 4 meg of ram, super graphics card and motherboard in an Antec 920 case (vitually silent fans) I could only tell it was running by the air movement! I shall fit some Zalman 120mm Quiet fans (around £6-10 each). So its PC for power and affordability

I do all my work on the Mac and so do my children although they can use the PC also. I could never go back to using a PC. As for software for mac there is nothing on Windows that you can't get for a Mac.
Microsoft Office for Mac has every thing except Access Database, but to be honest with you I use OpenOffice.org which is free, has a database and in my opinion is better than Microsoft Office.

| | | Re: MAC or PC? Hi! I bought my Macbook Pro two years ago and I can honestly say it is by far the best computer I have ever owned. Before that, I went through several PCs, all of which eventually drove me mad when the drives became corrupted for some reason. I well remember the endless hours of frustration having to perform system restores or even worse, having to re-install the operating system. Absolutely no problems with the Mac; it is a joy to use; it always boots up very quickly; backing up is easy using Time Machine and no anti-virus software is needed.
Enjoy your new Mac! |
