| | | Re: Image sharpening. For all post-conversion processing I have always used Corel PhotoPaint (not to be confused with Paintshop Pro) which is part of the Corel Graphics Suite. I have tried Photoshop CSS but found it pretty impenetrable and counter-intuitive for me. Corel PhotoPaint makes a good job of sharpening I think (and everything else - as good as PS in my view), and my favourite method is to use a High Pass at radius 1 or 2, merging either Soft Light or Overlay, which brings out fur and feather detail well. If I want to bring out even more detail, I might apply a subtle Tone Curve to the High Pass before merging. Depends on the photo and whether it is for web display or printing. What I cannot stand are the noticeable white or black edges which an Unsharp Mask can create if used aggressively, but, then, I am a self-confessed pixel-peeper.
