I paid less than that (£70 that is) for Elements 8 from the well known site begining with A just before Xmas

I paid £79.00 for Elements 8 at the Apple store in Glasgow, last Christmas. Which wasn't as bad as the £1500 I had also just paid for a shiny new iMac, which Santa had left off his sled. 
Having used the full Photoshop. I think it is the lack of some of the text effects, that I miss most. |

It appears that Elements 9 has just been released. It is being discussed on this photo forum Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 now released
I use Serif Photo Plus and was surprised to learn that Elements 8 and below don't have layers and masks as an editing option. | | | |
