Hi resolution pics ???

I notice a few comp site ask for these if you are lucky enough to get through to final.
What are they please, sorry for numpty moment lol

Generally a picture that hasn't been downsized for web use. For instance my 50D will take images 4752 x 3168 but I resize to 1024 by 683 for web use. Some competitions will ask for smaller files to reduce bandwidth usage but for the detailed judging they want larger images.

Most comps will want to see the originals. If you're thinking of entering it's best to take the images in the largest file setting the camera has - preferably in RAW and 'uncompressed'.
When you put the images on a site like this the size has to be reduced in order for the image to display 'quickly'. For the web a resolution of 72 dpi is best and an image that is around 800 pixils on the widest side and a size of around 200kilobites at this resolution will be fast enough.
For selling, or for comps, the dpi should be about 300 and the file size should be about 25-50 megabites (it varies) - that is 'high resolution' and will enable the judges/buyers to see the details of the image and/or reproduce it successfully as a good quality print.
