firmware help

Ive tried downloading the latest firmware for my camera off the canon website. I saved it to a formatted card via a card reader but when i install it in my camera it shows the old version and says ( memory card containing firmware is required to update). Its as though the camera cant see the update.
where am i going wrong?

Once, I tried to do a firmware update. But I couldn't make any sense of the instructions on the Canon site so decided that as everything was working OK it just wasn't worth the bother.

If you still haven't sorted things out it may be worth asking again in one of the specialist photographic sites.

Many thanks geoff for the reply. I managed to sort it out in the end. What i was doing wrong was downloading the firmware to my documents then inserting an sd card in the computer via a card reader and saving it to the card thats why my camera wasnt seeing it.
What i should have done is once id got it in my documents rather than press save i should have pressed run.
Another window then opens that says where do you want to extract it to, click browse and select the card reader.
Hey presto it works

computers really frustrate me

but there great when things work
