| | | Photo editing freebie. Hi,i have recently bought a new Laptop and have been using a programme downloaded free called Photofiltre and it is excellent. You can do ust about everything you can on Photoshop,re-size,crop adjust brightness, colour etc,etc and in these tough times i thought i would just share my find with others, although somebody on here is no doubt using it already. .
Regards
Steve. |

| | | Re: Photo editing freebie. I use photofiltre and picasa - they are two very different programs. Photofiltre is excellent for quick edits - it's very simple, loads quickly and does most basic adjustments. IMO, picasa is more of a viewing program. It's very good at scrolling through and choosing images. The edits it does, whilst good, are set out to look more snazy and often don't give enough user control. It compresses pictures a fair bit when saving, and doesn't have a resize feature.
If you want the best free editing program out there though, it has to be 'the GIMP 2.0'. Whilst it's name is a bit odd, it is an incredibly powerful programme that will let you do almost all the stuff photoshop does - for free! It is, however, quite a complex programme that takes a fair bit of getting used to. |

| | | Re: Photo editing freebie. I use GIMP too, the latest release is very good, much better than before. I bought a copy of 'Beginning GIMP; by Akkana Peck, and can't recommend it highly enough. ... BUT I still use Picasa 3, and for many people it is all they need. I will sometimes use it to tweak an imge after GIMP as it does not change or compress the original image. You can resize images for export or for email, so the earlier comment is misleading. UFraw, GIMP and Picasa are a brilliant, free combination. M. |

Here are a before and after about 30 seconds work with PhotoScape |

Going to give this one a try though in case it has any extras that Picasa doesn't have. (I find photoshop/paint shop far too much messing around for just the basics, ok for more advanced editing.)

| | | Re: Photo editing freebie. I guess its good to have a free download with such similar tools as photoshop, but having checked it out its far too similar, and far too much messing around, even just to crop things! I'm sticking with Picasa
