this is not what im after one prob to another? | That's in the nature of a 'tiff' file - it's uncompressed, unlike a jpeg which is highly compressed.

this is not what im after one prob to another? | Hi gez.
If they are now 39mb. they are 6 times larger file sizes than the original 6.4mb. Which sounds about right. As Jim says when you convert to TIFF, the files are not compressed (as are JPEGS) so they are much larger when saved.

| | | Re: how to convert jpeg to tiff? Hi Gez,
Saving as a tiff won't change the dimensions in pixels of your image, it will just increase the file size in megabytes. From the sizes you quote it sounds like it's a 12 megapixel image somewhere in the region of 4,200 x 2,800 pixels. Pictures of those dimensions will usually be under 10Mb when saved as jpegs but it depends on how much detail is in the image. Large areas of uniform colour compress much further than lots of fine detail so the file size of the jpeg will vary from image to image. When saved as a tiff however, the file size will be constant and much larger because there is no compression.
But whatever file type you save it as the size in pixels won't change. The only way to alter that is to use a "resize" option.
