| | | Opening RAW files in PE7. Help please! I've just shot in RAW for the first time I've downloaded the adobe plug in update so it covers my 50D.The photo files seemed to download onto my external hd (where I wanted them) but they didn't turn up in a folder (as I expected) but as individual files, each one with its sidekick xmp file. The thumbnails land on the Organiser pane (fine) but if I highlight a photo and hit edit>full edit I get a blank Editor pane. I somehow expected the file to be opened up in the ARC window. The only way I can do this it seems is to go back to the files on the hd(which, of course, are all impenetrable file names so I have no idea which photo I'm opening!),hit file>open and open one of them up. My instinct is that something's gone wrong somewhere! I'd like to stick with ARC rather than use the DPP that came wth the camera (and which I haven't installed).I've read various books and searched forums but I just can't quite nail what I'm doing wrong.Any advice would be very much appreciated. I'm determined not to give up!! Thanks, Skywatcher. |

| | | Re: Opening RAW files in PE7. Help please! Download the free 'Adobe DNG Converter' from here: Adobe - Digital Negative (DNG)
You can then convert your files to DNG, which is a raw format that Adobe are pushing to be a universal standard. Then you can open the DNG files in Photoshop Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), develop them and export to Photoshop for final editing and saving as (say) JPEG.

| | | Re: Opening RAW files in PE7. Help please! Still no joy. It's getting silly, now! I've installed DPP and downloaded images. All the photos shot as JPEGs show up but none of the RAWs so it's even worse than PE7 which at least showed me the images in the organiser window even though it wont open them!
I can't believe it's this difficult! No wonder people get put off shooting RAW.
Still need suggestions folks!!

Skywatcher | No, sorry, it ain't RAW that's the "problem" it's Adobe for one, although it don't help we have different RAW files for every canikon on the market.
I just acquired PE6, it was free off my niece who has upgraded to a "better" program, anyway, it took me two days to figure out how to install the stupid RAW files to the right directory.
You have to do it yourself ... there is no auto-update-we-will-do-it-for-you ... come on Adobe, get it together on at least one of your programs.
oh, and as for editing one RAW pic at a time, I gave up, went back to Sony's own software ... bloody easier too.
Won't bother with Adobe in future.
