| | | Unconverge my verticals I may need help unconverging the verticals of my house which I am to photo tomorrow for a film location company. I am looking to photograph with a 12-24 mil lens as its a very tall georgian townhouse and I dont want anything detracting, so want to be close up.
Any ideas, or offers to do it for me?
Cheers |

Why don't you place a copy of the photograph in this thread and I will give it a go. I am sure there are others who would help too, it would be a good exercise too.
Founf this online, hope it helps:
How to minimize converging verticals when shooting.
There are a number of ways to prevent converging verticals:
1. Keep the camera body level in the front-to-back plane when shooting. You can do this by putting
a bubble level in the hot-shoe of the camera body or on the top of the camera body and shoot
with a tripod.
2. Use the vertical edge of the image in the view-finder to judge how level the camera is. Just keep
the vertical edge of the view-finder lined up with a vertical in the image.
Page 1
3. Squat down lower than a normal standing position when shooting. This will tend to keep the
camera more level. Normally you tend to slant the camera downward when you shoot from a
standing position.

| | | Re: Unconverge my verticals Super, great idea Ron. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take note of the shooting tips and see how it pans out tomorrow, then upload and then the competition begins.
Nice one |

| | | Re: Unconverge my verticals If you had more time you could also hire a tilt/shift lens which would help keep the verticals parrallel - calumet have them but not on 24hrs notice.
also like ron said photoshop (Why dont you have it anymore btw), a man of your means could probably buy a copy , but you can also hire computer time at studios that have fast computers running it.
Also it might be worth looking at the GIMP (Gnu Image manipulation program) a free download from gnu soft which can do 95% of what photoshop does - including deconverging your verticals.

| | | Re: Unconverge my verticals Gimp is excellent Boddie, I downloaded it before I got Photoshop and as eeyore says it does most of what Photoshop can do but in a different way but then it's free.
Elements also does the job and is much cheaper.

(come to that GIMP is a download so thats true of it too) - the link for the gimp site is here GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program as its free i guess that doesnt contravene our no comercial links rule.

Cheers | I've done it a few times Andrew, but you'll need the full file converting I suspect. It improves things a lot, but is not perfect - well mucking about with
perspective is often not going to look natural.
A friend has a Rioch (?sp) which does it in camera!!!
Can't do it till Tuesday at earliest though - Rainham tomorrow and moving
mother-in-law to Suffolk on Monday. |
