Video editing software

Can anyone recommend some good, easy to use video editing software for PC, particularly for use with .mov files?

Hi

You should have Movey Maker already installed on your PC. You don't say if you are experienced or not in editing. If not then MM is a good starting point to get you into the basics of editing.

Jumping on from there there are several low cost packages - one that comes to mind is Pinnacle although there are a lot more or claiming to be better than the others.

Personally I use Final Cut on a Apple Mac Computer for all my professional editing. I do also have Avid Xpress DV on my PC.

These two machines are used for editing only, they are separate to my normal everyday computer that I use for business and this site etc.

Best advice I can give is start small - editing software can become very expensive - it all depends on what your end project is for - if its just for your own personal use then MM is quite capable. If however you want to submit films to Networks and Production houses then you do need to go for Final Cut or Avid Xpress

Hope this is of some help - editing is a very complex subject.

I've used Virtualdub. It's free and pretty good, but I'm not sure about .mov files. It will accept .avi container files with xvid or divx video streams and mp3 (and other) audio streams. You can probably recode .mov files using 'Super'.

Video is a whole 50 gal drum of worms! Have a look at the doom9 site - it's got a lot of guides to video encryption, links to free software and editing:

Windows movie maker seemed pretty straightforward to me - I'm no expert but it was pretty intuitive to use without too much help and seems to cover most of the basics...

I use Magix movie pro 2 plus, It has most things you need to edit your videos.
Plenty of good transitions and very easy to use. You should be able to find a sensibly priced version on that well known auction site.

Hi, suggest you avoid moviemaker. I've just done a film for my brother for Christmas and it was a nightmare. After many, many days and hours of struggling googled it and found many more users have had probs. However, my friends works perfectly! But just in case try something else, there are many trials you can downlaod for free, try adobe. Good luck k9

And theres the added problem of it doesnt open .mov files, which is all my camera records as!

Try recoding it to xvid video stream, mp3 audio stream, with:

SUPER © .

and then edit the avi file with:

Welcome to virtualdub.org! - virtualdub.org

They're both free.

I'm amazed there seems to be so many problems with editing. I can assure you that either Final Cut or Avid Express are first class - they are almost the industry standard.
However you you are looking for something for nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you get what you pay for.
