| | | canon raw files. Hi all,
Can anyone recommend software to open and edit raw files. I have a canon 1d mk3.
I have photoshop7 which isnt compatable with raw, i have to edit using digital photo professional then convert to jpeg or 8bit tiff files so that i can see them in ps7
dpp is a bit limited when it comes to raw files i wondered if anyone new if cs2 or cs3 would work
many thanks regards mark |

Or am i wrong in assuming this is possible.
The trouble with dpp is once ive adjusted white balance, shot settings and levels i have to convert and send to ps 7. But ps7 wont work with raw or 16 bit tiff files.
I have to change the tiff to an 8 bit file or save as jpeg. Which makes it seem pointless shooting in raw mode to start with.

I've managed to get hold of cs4 and it opens raw files and allthough ive only spent ten minutes on it up to now it looks like you can do quite extensive edits on it.
Thanks for the info i will let you know how i get on with it. I've just got back from the lakes so im off to bed. Bye for now.

| | | Re: canon raw files. You could use Faststone it is a freebie browser - just do a Google if it isn't Faststone it is Fastone I have used it in the past when I tried a Mk2 and a Mk3. It downloads the files and you can convert them to Tiff and then adjust in Phtoshop.
It is very fast and is excellent for rapid viewing of images, it is also good to look at images as slide shows.
