| | | Re: size Fist when I down load my pics onto the computer I put them in "My pictures" If you open the pic there is a tool bar at the top that allows you to resize and crop the images..
Then upload them to the Gallery. I look at other pics for the latin names and copy them. You put the common name - latin name leaving a gap between
Then click on the pic for thumbnails click on the pic and click in the middle of the long URL until it all turns blue then copy and paste to your thread.
Hope this all makes sense |

| | | Re: size If you have photoshop or similar, click file then save for the web. On the screen that opens resize the image to at least 800 pixels (I think) on it's longest side. For latin names check the galleries.
If you go to the tecnichal issues forum - it's one of the sub-forums of the "Wild About Britain" heading on the list of forums you will get all the information you need re uploading pictures, resizing etc.
Good Luck
Ron

Good Luck
Ron | Its 800 pix wide (ie horizontal plane) regardless of which is the longest side - also make sure constrain proportions is ticked so that the photo editting software automatically selects the right height to avoid stretching and distorting your pic

| | | Latin Names Often much quicker to do a Wiki google
i.e want to now the latin name of common gull
type into google
Wiki common gull
and the first choice will take you right there !
For re-sizing I use the freeware "Easy thumbnails"
which I find for re-sizing much intuitive than photo shop
and much quicker.
With explorer loaded you can keep re-sizing until you
get the sort of size you want for Gallery. |

| | | Re: Latin Names I use IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide also freeware.
Assuming that you have uploaded the picture to the computer you first crop and otherwise adjust your picture then click 'image' select 'resize/resample' change 'width' to 800 to 1000 pixels, whatever you want (check that 'preserve aspect ratio' is set - it is the default).
Click 'ok' then 'save as' [new name] so that you don't overwrite the original. Quote:

| | | Re: Latin Names Maybe but Wiki is predominantly a USAmerican beast and the taxonomy/nomenclature will be biased to American usage so you need to use a bit of caution.
For birds in Britain I would refer to the RSPB site which is easy to use - add it to your favourites! Ditto, for other animals and plants - most of them have a maintained British or World list somewhere! Quote:
