| | | Re: any good editing programmes on freeware I know the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is freeware (and open source if you're into that sort of thing). I've had a quick look and notice you can alter levels and curves (a la Photoshop). It would be interesting to know if anyone around here uses this program - it looks pretty tidy for free software!

| | | Re: any good editing programmes on freeware I used GIMP for about 6 months while I was between other programs, and I still use it in work. It's pretty good for what it is, and although it doesn't quite have all the features of photoshop, it's certainly worth the money! Most of the functionality is there, and you can do all the usual photo editting with it. Download it and see what you think!

Its not all singing and dancing but what it does it does well ie its fairly basic but useful if you do not want to do a lot of manipulation.

| | | Re: any good editing programmes on freeware I also used The Gimp before I got Photoshop and found it excellent. It does the majority of what photoshop does but it has a different interface, but really good for a freebie.

| | | Re: any good editing programmes on freeware having bought Adobe Elements 5 a while ago and being very disappointed with it (powerful but soooo slowww) and now use Picasa2 for 90% of my photos, which just require a straighten/crop/auto contrast most of the time and it's a dream to use; more advanced editing I use the free Paint.Net which is fast but not as powerful as Elements. |

I agree completely. Elements is very good but Picasa2 does all you'll need most of the time and is so much quicker. I will use Elements for the more advanced stuff but also use Picasa or the free software that came with my camera for the majority |
