| | | Neat Image Hi folks
Whilst roaming the site ( thoroughly enjoying it ) I've seen mention of Neat Image and wondered if it was worth splashing out on. I find that this time of year the noise on my photos increases drastically and my attempts at removal using photoshop cs are very poor indeed. I have a Sony alpha. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. |

| | | Re: Advice wanted Hi Bub-les you can download a free version of neatimage which will give you an idea of how effective the program is.The free version can also be used as a plugin for PS, but unless you pay for the full version, noise removal in PS is restricted to small images. You can also download specific noise profiles for a lot of camera models from the neatimage site, which are well worth trying.

| | | Re: Advice wanted Hi Bub-les, I use Noise Ninja and wouldn't be without it. The thing is with theses type of programs you want to learn how to use masks. Sometimes it's only the background that needs noise reduction and the main subject just needs sharpening.

| | | Re: Advice wanted I plyaed around with the free version, and was sufficiently impressed to pay out so that I could work on full sized files. Excellent programme and very flexible. I'm using it as a plug-in for PhotoImpact.
At this time of year (ie noisy shots) I tend to mask the main subject and then apply reduction only to the background in the full size image, then reduce and then add any sharpening - or further mild reduction - if needed. |

| | | Re: Advice wanted There is a fairly easy way to selectively add NR to images with the free version....just open the shot in neatimage, reduce the noise as necessary and save with a different filename. Open the image in PS then paste as a new layer onto the original image.Using a layer mask and brush tool you can undo the NR in the detailed areas leaving only the out of focus areas with NR.Its a bit of a hassle but if stuck with the free version its a way round the image size restriction.
