| | | Editing Images I don't have the more expensive software such as photoshop elements but I wondered if it has the capabilities to remove large areas in an image and clone over with nice bits of the photo. Take for instance this photo. I like this but for the beige splodge on the left. Could elements or PSP clone over an area this big with the green part of the background or would it look odd if it was attempted?
Many thanks

| | | Re: altering images Yep it could be done, I'm sure of that but I'm afraid I aren't knowedgeable enough to try it.
About the only thing I do to my images is alter contast, brightness, shadows etc and sharpen a bit I have tried cloning the odd bit out here and there but only on a very small scale.
Roger
As for looking odd I don't thik it would as long as it was done properly by someone who knows what they are doing

| | | Re: altering images Did this using Ark soft photo editor, to check how long it would take and came up with about the same twenty minutes, but could have spent longer on the detail.

| | | Re: altering images I painted a mask over the area that I wanted to get rid of (White background) which in turn created a selection. Created a new layer and selected the area that I wanted to clone from (green). Used the clone tool to clone on the new layer into the selection. It was easier to clone over some parts of the image that I thought were not necessary but I thought the berries on the left added to the image so I made a rough selection aroun them, copied and pasted on a new layer, then erased the bits around the berries and flattened th image. To get a really good image I think it would take about an hour.

| | | Re: altering images Your method obviously works Dai, but it seems a bit complicated. All I did was open the image in Ark soft, select the area behind the wing and used this to clone over the unwanted bits, still took about the same time though so it shows there are many ways to skin a cat, Anyone got a spare cat I can practice on ? Oops!

| | | Re: altering images Many thanks to you all for the replies and many thanks to those that have spent the time altering the image. I particularly liked the berries on the left and didn't want to lose them. I have never heard of Ark software so will have a root on the net for info on that. Which software did you use Dai? I am not sure I would have the patience to spend that long altering an image, I had wondered if perhaps it could be done quickly. |

| | | Re: altering images Hi Kerry, Arksoft is a freeby when you buy canon kit, it is an addition to the driver disc. My first version was on the driver disc when I bought a canon scanner, my second came on the disc with my 350d camera.
