While looking on the Amazon site, I spotted a "sponsored link" to Get Photoshop CS3 for Only £20. I cannot believe this is legitimate as Amazon themselves want £750 for CS3 Extended, but I'm also struggling to believe that Amazon would have "sponsored links" to illegal software download sites.
I'm actually quite happy with Paintshop Pro which does everything I need. The big drawback though is that photography books and magazines never mention it in their chapters/articles on image editing - it's all Photoshop. So if it's possible to get a copy of Photoshop without taking out another mortgage I'd be quite interested.

Older full versions of Photoshop 5,6,7 are available on ebay. I use Photoshop 6 and it meets all my needs.

| | | Re: Photoshop I have Photoshop Elements 2.0 on a CD that came free with my camera a couple of years ago. I have never used it as I already have Photoshop CS2 so if you'd like it, just pm your address to me and I'll stick it in the post.

| | | Re: Photoshop I bought a scanner recently and it had five copies of Elements included with it. Speak up and a copy is yours. Likewise with Capture One LE. I have two copies and two unlock codes. I shall only ever use one.
CS2 was available on our favourite auction house for around £12 and it was stated to be absolutely legal. The seller said that it was registerable. |

| | | Re: Photoshop Some sellers on ebay do sell education versions of creative suite - so it does look official and cheap and chances are you will have no problem registering or validating them; but you could be in breech of the terms and conditions if you weren't a student and were using it commercially. CS3 design premium for students is approx £90! makes you wonder how adobe can charge £1k for normal people to buy it!!!
I work at a uni and i use CS as part of my job - not only do i get reduced prices, the license allows me to install at work and home. Sometimes it benefits to read small print!
Elements is easy to legitimately find for free. Sometimes photoshop is overkill. i find iphoto does as much as i need it too do! Its a case of finding something that does what you need it to, in a way that suits you, your style and your budget! |

| | | Re: Photoshop Thanks everyone for the advice and the offers of software. I now have a copy of Elements 5 courtesy of a colleague and will have a play with it when time allows.
As I said in my original post, I'm not at all unhappy with PaintShop Pro for the limited amount of photo editing I do. But I keep seeing the tutorials in various books and magazines for all sorts of fancy effects (or even basic ones like the best way to convert to mono) and it can be quite difficult to translate these from Photoshop to PSP.
Thanks again!

Dave P. | you will probably find that there is still some disconect between the tutorials and practice because although PSE 5 is often more than adequate it is the advanced filters and functions that have been taken out to lower the price.
eventually you may find yourself yearning for full photoshop - hopefully the price of remaining CS2 will fall now CS3 is out - plus of course you can get both CS2 and 3 from file sharing sites such as limewire etc - but this is naughty and obviously something that I wouldnt condone
