A highly-critical flaw has been discovered and a fix is not available yet.
Do Not Open Any .PNG files

| | | Re: Photoshop alert! This would be for web surfing or receiving emails with embedded photos. You need to be directed to a website where a specially crafted page with a bad png file. You will also need to have set Photoshop with png plug-in as your default viewer.
A work around untill there is a fix released, would be to disable Photoshop as the default viewer. You will still be able to launch Photoshop and "File, open" - or similar, a png file. This flaw should not apply to your local png files unless you have caught a bad one......
This also happened to jpg & jpeg files some while back. |

Dai | ts reputed to be a cross platform problem so you wont be immune - mind you howoften does joe public encouter a png file anyway - I'm not sure i've ever seen one

There had been a long running competition in the US with a prize for the first demonstrable hack into the Mac OS. Proof of concept was shown and verified a few weeks ago and the competition closed. I believe the hack was the crafted web page type and rendered the Mac to full control of the hacker.
