The person I owe a lot to was a teacher, she taught art and botany and introduced us to flower painting and dissection, an interest which has lasted for the last 60-odd years. |

| | | Re: Who's your natural world hero? I remember there was a programme on TV about the time he spent alone for some months on South Georgia. He was living in a tent and when the elephant seals came ashore they crushed it and he had to live under his upturned dingy.

Wiki missed out the War years and I looked him up and he started as an announcer for the Beeb then went into the Navy - didnt really fit in as they thought he was 'too stroppy'! After what he had been doing perhaps he just couldn't take orders from someone else. His Falklands work seems to have come in handy - I wonder what he thought about that.
