sorry to here it if its true i enjoy all oddie programmes i find him very believable as a presenter get over it bill viewers will always give presenters stick you do a good job please stay springwatch would not be the same without you

My wife is a specialist in the treatment of ME (or chronic fatigue syndrome). She reckons your sister is not filling in the forms correctly or filling them in as if she's on her better days. She needs to fill the form in reflecting one of her worst days, and when it says "Can she cook a hot meal" it actually means "cook a hot meal from basics" i.e. peeling potatoes etc. Also, when it asks about distances she can walk, it means without discomfort and making herself tired. The problem that many ME sufferers are up against is ignorance from the medics and social services in their area to this condition. It's another postcode lottery.

Why would you say this? The man is ill, I presume it's a dig at him being able to afford a private clinic. Not sure why comment on where he is. He needs help isn't that enough. Depression is diabolical and too easily not accepted as serious. My husband is a sufferer and We lost a friend to this illness 16 years ago. He needs to be supported and helped.

I do feel for poor bill and anyone else suffering from depression ,I suffer SAD syndrome and thank god its only 5 months of the year, its something you cant just snap out of like some people think.My tablets have now gone down to 1 a day , which im pleased with .

Im glad that he is able to book himself into a clinic for help,and hope he is soon out and about doing something he loves ,I wish him all the very best . sheila .

I think andrews point was as gaina laid out above - yes he is ill and needs treatment , but it is much easier for him (or indeed anyone else with that degree of money) to book into capio nightingale than it is for the average sufferer who is dependent on the doubtful support of the NHS.

while this is more of an indictment of the state of the NHS than it is of bill , there is also the point that most of the (no doubt huge) ammount of money he has, has come from the licence payers pocket over the years

too right - been there done that bought the tee shirt etc . Its a complex situation and not one i particularly want to go into here. but her symptoms are not all in line with ME (which was the diagnoses when she was about twelve - shes thirty now), shes been tested for just about every disease known to man and we are currently struglling with a consultant (who i refer to as dr nick riviera -from the simpsons , he has the best qualifications money can buy... $79 on ebay ) who is of the opinon that it is physcological problem.

Personally I like to think of my license fee going on bill's care more than I like to think of it going on some of the boring bilge we are subjected to between series of 'springwatch' and 'autumnwatch'...**cough** lark rise to candleford **cough**

The BBC does nature programs so well, I don't know why they don't just stick to that .

Depression is a horrid illness which many people don't realise falls into (broadly) two categories. It's because of a lack of knowledge/understanding of the illness that I think some people assume that the sufferer can just get themselves 'out of it', but unfortunately it's not that easy.

Well put. I get it myself and I have lost count of the ignorami who are lucky enough not to have this debilitating condition who have made stupid comments along the lines of 'get a life', 'snap out of it' and 'depressed people are just being stupid'. I just hope these idiots don't ever have a dose of it themselves.
