| | | Darwin's Birthday; an important opportunity Pin back your lug holes this is a long one!
12th February 2009 will be the 200year anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth. Darwin was probably the greatest mind within the study of natural history and British. Whilst some people may claim he has flaws in his character his genius is undoubted.
Wild Woman started a thread which suggested celebrating Darwins birthday with a party which I thank her for but say that can only be a limited opportunity for local WABBERS.
I do not know if my suggestion is appropriate for WAB but here goes:
I propose that WAB inaugerate a Charles Darwin award named in honour of the Bearded genius and awarded annually to the person or organisation that in the opinion of the members has delivered WAB' objectives.
I would see this as working by members individually sponsoring a worthy winner (it may be a person, or a group such as a wildlife rescue group etc) and a group of moderators selecting a short list of say 6 which the membership would then vote on.
There are three reasons why I think that WAB should do this.
1) To commemorate this legendary figure.
2) To recognise true champions of British Wildlife
3) To further the credibility of WAB as the most active source of British Wildlife interest.
I do not know how WAB works above the Moderator level but would suggest this is likley to receive some sponsorship and an annoucement of the award could be achieved within the tight timescale.
If any one has a better idea for celebrating CD please bring it on.
Roy

| | | Re: Darwin's Birthday; an important opportunity I thought it was a little too farfetched at first but re-read it and I like the idea! Unsure if it'll be up everyone's street though. Would be interesting if it goes ahead, but I wont hold out hope |

Thank you but I think it died a death with little support. Not to worry though I still think the Site is important enough to show recognoition of Britains greatest naturalist.

| | | Re: Darwin's Birthday; an important opportunity He is on my wall with all my important photos, My Girls, animals I've been caretaker to, heroes and heroines (Gandhi, Szabo, "Sepp" Plieseis, Gaiswinkler and others) bits of Home and remembrances, a statue of Prometheus, and an Ankh.
Actually now I look at the wall, I think it's a bit freaky.
Camo "Whilst some people may claim he has flaws in his character his genius is undoubted." We ALL have flaws, I just haven't found mine yet!
