My first bat group event!

Last week I joined my local bat group (inspired by the "Curiosity: Who wathches the bats now?" thread on WAB) and tonight I went on the Avon Bat Group bat detector training and bat walk - it was great! I used a bat detector (kindly leant by Dorset Bat Group) for the first time and managed to see, hear and record pipestrelle and serotine bats (the first time to my knowledge that I have ever seen this type of bat..). We heard a possible daubentaun's bat too, but it was very fleeting and even the experts weren't 100% sure...

For anyone who has even a passing interest in bats I can thoroughly recommend going to an event like this - I have learnt so much and had a excellent time Can't wait for the next event.

Went to Golden Valley Nature Reserve in Wick near Bristol.. never been there before - will have to go during the day as it looked really interesting - used to be a red ochre mine and works
