Moss for id please
I thought it'd be easy to identify this moss from the book, but I'm having trouble. This is a really new area to me. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Becky, definitely a Polytrichum. Though it looks a bit dry, I'd go for P. juniperinum, (Juniper Haircap Moss). Usually grey-green, but sometimes yellowy-green.
The only other similar is P. commune, but I don't think it's that.

Thanks Dorts. Now I have something else to point out to folk during our rambles. It's been quite dry on Islay recently - we were commenting on that on our ramble today.
