| | | Grasses and reeds for ID please These are some of the grasses found in my meadow.
This one is a good 5ft tall:
This one about knee-height:
And in the boggy bit at the top, there are lots of these reeds:
Many thanks

| | | Re: Grasses and reeds for ID please First one in the boggy bit looks like Soft Rush - Juncus effusus.
Don't quote me on that but it looks like the one I bought for the pond

| | | Re: Grasses and reeds for ID please 1. Tufted Hair-grass Deschampsia cespitosa.
2. Yorkshire Fog Holcus lanatus.
3 (left) Probably Soft Rush Juncus effusus but possibly Compact Rush Juncus conglomeratus. Feel to see if the stem is ridged (rolling between the front teeth is a good way). Compact Rush has a stem with many fine longitudinal ridges.
3 (right) The rush is Soft Rush with Yorkshire Fog visible.
Hope that helps. |

| | | Re: Grasses and reeds for ID please 1. I think J.R. is right with Tufted Hair-grass - Deschampsia cespitosa. Though at first glance I thought it may have been False Oat Grass, but the long, thin, straight shiny stems give it away.
2. Yorkshire Fog Grass - Holcus lanatus.
3. Soft Rush - Juncus effusus var. subglomeratus. Has a more compact flower than the normal plant and is probably almost as common.
4. Soft Rush - Juncus effusus. The normal plant.
Dorts.
