I am carrying out a woodland survey and would appreciate help in identifying the following ferns, grass and mosses.

1. Moss - not sure which.
2. Broad Buckler-fern
3. Wood Avens/Herb Bennet
4. A sedge, maybe Wood Sedge but guessing really
5. Male Fern

2. Broad Buckler Fern - Dryopteris austriaca.
3. Herb Bennet - Geum urbanum.
4. Common Woodrush - Luzula pilosa.
5. Dryopteris sp. (poss. felix- mas).
6. Male Fern - Dryopteris felix-mas.
7. Minium hornum.

Vince | I agree it is a possibility, though Rhynchostegium confertum does tend to be more 'open' and 'feathery' than the plant shown.

| | | Re: Woodland plants for identification You could be correct Dorts, my eyesight is not the best. Just going on the sporophytes, to the very left of the photo there looks to be a beak to one of the capsules. That with the general jizz of it is what I based my judgement on.

Dorts. | I'd have expected shorter, wider, hairy yellow-green leaves with sometimes a pinkish-brown tinge on L. pilosa (Hairy Wood-rush). |

| | | Re: Woodland plants for identification I am quite sure it is not one of the common wood-sedges or grasses, that only leaves Luzula and it is not L. forsteri or L. sylvatica. My instinct took me immediately to Common (Hairy) Woodrush but as always, happy to hear other possibities..
The hairs on L. pilosa are much more noticable on young fresh leaves.
