| | lawn moss liverwort? Hi all,
this has me stumped, appropriate really , given the ashes outcome..............!
Found growing after the severe snow and temperatures on my lawn moss, in just one place near an apple tree, seemingly attached to the outer moss leaf edges, its got a felty under surface and smooth upper surface, but its lost me, so grateful for any help/steer.
Thanks a lot

| | | Re: lawn moss liverwort? It looks to me like a Cladonia sp. (or similar) that has been bleached by the frost, which you probably would not have noticed before.
Hopefully Alan S will be able to sort it out for you.

| | | Re: lawn moss liverwort? Thanks a lot guys, yes, it certainly had me wondering about a fungus at first - there are so many pointers to that, but this one was outside my knowledge, but not any more....................
Cheers fauna, it looks right for Arrhenia retiruga, often on moss , but I'll carry on checking now to try and nail it down to correct species. Unusual too, I gather.
Brilliant, I'm very grateful.
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: lawn moss liverwort? Yes, this is Arrhenia retiruga. A toadstool that has lost its gills and its stem (and its toad).
It is growing on the moss Brachythecium rutabulum, which is a common host for this species.

From the pics I couldn't nail it so certainly.
