3 Mosses for ID Help Please

Found today: -

No. 1..........................No.2................... .......No.3

Not sure about 1 & 2, but think 3 is Polythrichum piliferum because the leaves have long white hairs.

Any assistance towards ID will be much appreciated.

Hi Mike - dont know 1 or 2, but I think you are right with 3 as P. piliferum -the other contenders include juniperinum with more brown tips.
Arent they great photos though with these 'flowers'?

Hi Ken, yes I agree, mosses do make very interesting photo's.

Also - Just realised that I had a better photo of Moss No.1, so here it is in case it helps towards ID.

No.1 could also be P.piliferum

2 could be Polytrichum juniperinum - it seems to have the typical red/brown tips to the leaves.

I think you are correct Rob. I've just searched the image Gallery on the British Bryological Society's website, and their photo of fruiting P.juniperinum is identical.

I think you are correct as well oxycera. On googling for images I've found several that match, and the leaves on my pics. are showing the white hairs at the tips.
