I used to do the same with fungi - during the summer months there were so many things to look at and photograph but then come autumn my attention would drift towards fungi but I never really got very much further than your 50 or so common ones until I found this site and people who could correct my tentative ID's of some of the more difficult ones.

Incidentally the British Bryological society is working on a new field guide with keys and some really good phtographs - the draft version are available here: British Bryological Society Fieldguide - Introduction It a very useful resource at the moment and I think when finally published it should be a real help.
