| | | Colourful Myxo - ID Thoughts? Found today, and posting these in case anyone might be able to suggest a likely species.
Growing on the still quite hard wood of a decorticated, long since fallen Larix trunk.
I'm reasonably sure that the one in the first photo is the same as the others, but slightly less well developed.
Several such clumps were growing slightly further along the same log.
I can't presently think of anything obvious (other than possibly Leocarpus fragilis, and Hemytrichia calyculata, which might go through a colour phase similar to this raspberry red.
I did manage to remove a very small sample, with intention of eventual microscopy, but am not very confident that it will carry on to maturity.
Any thoughts gratefully received.
Regards,
Mike. |

red top, white stem, how about Tubifera ferruginosa?
Maybe!
Cheers

| | | Re: Colourful Myxo - ID Thoughts? If I were a betting man, I'd have put my wager on H.calyculata. - Whilst trawling the web earlier today, I came across some images that were dead ringers for these.
But - I think this is destined to be another UFO!
I think that the depressed tops to the sporocarps might have been caused by frost/cold weather the night before I found them.
Certainly the sample that I brought home is looking rather sorry for itself. - I'll keep it for a while just in case, but I doubt very much whether it will mature any further.
