| | | Casebearer larval case? I've been finding these grey furry larvae in my house (in Berkshire). The most similar thing on the internet I can find is a Lichen Case-bearer larvae in its case ( Lichen Case-bearer Dahlica lichenella - UKMoths), though the case does look somewhat different. It has a brown head that sticks out, and moves by pulling itself along with this. It's about 8mm long with the head tucked in.
Any idea if it is in fact a case-bearer? And if I should be worried about finding a number of them in my house? |

| | | Re: Casebearer larval case? If its indoor I'd expect it to be the Case-bearing Clothes Moth. A larger picture of the case would help, because it does look grainy rather than furry, but you do describe them as furry.
Assuming I'm right. Do you have grey socks or jumpers? Because, these will be giving the colour to the case. The larvae have quite distinctive black heads compared with the pale body. If this is the case you need to find what they are feeding on. It's worth putting any woollens through a good wash, and have a good deep clean of the relevant area. Affected items can be frozen to kill the larvae. If its more extensive then seek professional advice.
Psychid larvae tend to be found out-of-doors and usually require pretty expert knowledge to find them. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
