| | | lobster moth caterpillar Someone on flicker found one of these near Glastonbury I will try to get them to post a shot but if you want to see it I post a link on my profile page on WAB..
Are these rare and are they a British insect as they look exotic I found a similar pic by googling "half caterpillar, half spider" as this is what it looks like.
I thought Wabbers would be interested to see it.

| | | Re: lobster moth caterpillar They are an uncommon moth of southern Britain. The name comes from the appearance of the caterpillar. I've had an adult in my garden.

| | | Re: lobster moth caterpillar Lobster moths are not Uncommon. They are listed as Common in the Waring and Townsend book and looking at my Provisional Moth Atlas they have been recorded pretty much accross all of southern England. They appear to go as far north as Snowdonia in Wales and come up England level with say Peterborough, so not really far into the Midlands. |

| | | Re: lobster moth caterpillar I would agree that it does not have as much of a Common distribution as other Common listed moths. But still pretty Common in the southern half of England. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
