| | | Footman Eilema sp. Hello all,
This is from 21st July 2009, it's doing my head in. I have Eilema griseola ab. stramineola which is an all over pale yellowish colour, it doesn't have a yellow edge. Hants Moths usually gives a description which confirms this. Hants Moths - 2044 Dingy Footman Eilema griseola
It doesn't have the shape either, no matter how I try to think it may have it's wings crossed more or whatever, I have never seen one cross it's wings like this nor does the shape look to fit Eilema griseola.
I have searched and found one which seems to fit, but it's not supposed to be here and I'm not sure if the photo is correctly named although it is one which is listed in a free dictionary (wikicem.com) I found (again no proof). Look at Eilema palliatella EILEMA
The same photo is from this site.
However, searching for other seemingly reliable images of Eilema palliatella doesn't show quite the same moth, except for maybe one on leps.it which bears some resemblance in colouring although the photo isn't a good one. Moths and Butterflies of Europe and North Africa
Does anyone have any more of an idea than I have?
Janet

Have you ever seen one like this? They can be confusing!
I just found some specimens on boldsystems of Dingy Footman Eilema griseola, the first photo looks very similar although maybe not as pale.. BOLD Systems - Taxonomy Browser griseola
The link goes back to all the specimens, you will find it in the 4th row down..

| | | Re: Footman Eilema sp. Thanks Steve, I use that site occasionally too. Trying to sort what separates these two, I think it's the orangey thorax area which Eilema griseola doesn't seem to have? Bestimmungshilfe des Lepiforums: Eilema Griseola
