| | | Straw Underwing? I have some excellent reference books and the whole of the internet to search, including ukmoths website, and I still cannot get a positive ID on this one. After all, "Beige Moth" hardly counts as a helpful search phrase! I think that it is a Straw Underwing, but it doesn`t seem dark enough, and I hope that someone/s can put me straight, please.
Many thanks once again

| | | Re: Straw Underwing? I have had a look at photos of the Flounced Rustic, but there are some differences, I thought. Many of the shots showed a dark "I" in the middle of the wing, whereas, in my shot, it is a smaller "Y". Also, in my shot there is no dark patch near the trailing edge of the upper wing. I know that, with some moths, there can be variations in tone between specimens, from light to dark, but, as I understand it, the markings remain mostly the same. From the state of the fringing in my shot, the moth looks very fresh, so I don`t think wear and tear will have changed it much.
Thanks for the suggestion, but any further ideas, please?
