1 for identification please.

Hey Guys,

Found the following moth flying about the house last night. Have done some searching and I think it may be an Old Lady Mormo maura, am I close?



This is probably the first moth I have actually gone to the effort to I.D. hopefully it can be the start of a new interest

Also could you tell me some info? Is it rare / common? The book I am using for I.D doesn't really say much.

Yep, looks like an Old Lady to me.
A tip for future ID requests:- could you post your pics in colour please?
This one appears to be in b&w.
It will make ID's much easier.

The Old Lady is a resident local, well distributed moth with no similar species.
It has a one generation flight season from July to September.
It's habitat is:- riverbanks, marshes, gardens, hedgerows, scrub & woodland.

Thank you for your response and information, much appreciated.

This picture is actually in colour but to be fair its probably a combination of my amatuer photography skills, a white wall and the flash which makes it look black and white, although the markings do look alot more dull than in my ID book.

Have been reading a bit about moth trapping lately, definately want to start trying when I have some more free time coming up.
