Hello everyone!
I spotted the most striking moth (or butterfly?) just the other day in my garden in Lewisham, London.
I didn't have my camera on me, but I can remember it very clearly.
It was as large as a Red Admiral butterfly, with rounder wings, bright fluorescent yellow and black stripes on the closed wings and bright orange on the lower open wings and browny/black on the upper open wings.
The reason I think it was a moth is because it closed its wings in a strange way, by folding them inwards like a moth would, but then it was very much like a butterfly because it had a completely different look when it opened its wings fully.
I have googled as much as I can, and the closest thing I have found is a Jersey Tiger Moth, but it's shape is too triangular and its colouring (from what I gather from other photographs) is cream and black, and this Moth/ Butterfly was such a bright, fluro yellowy-green!
I would really appreciate it if anyone has seen anything similar or know what it could be! Apparently it has been seen in my garden once before, so I will try and snap it if I can.
Thanks in advance!
Louise, aka Ribbons
