Hi all
My friend and i are very curious at to what these months are that we have seen a few off recently.
i have pics i am just trying to work out how to upload them, it is blach with red dots all over and has antenna .
i will be back with the pic once i have worked out how to, i have them now on my pc from my phone camera just need to work out how to get them on here. |

Sound like one of the burnet moths which are active day flying moths + currently on the wing + visiting flowers. |

It'll probably be 6-spot Burnet or Narrow-Bordered 5 Spot Burnet, but i think there are a few other types too. |

I have uploaded the pics onto this web site but cannot seem to access them , do they take a while to appear ?
I am in scotland and live rural, we seen these months this morning next to a meadow type field, my friend had one on her hand !!! very brave |

Is it a common moth ? i have lived here for 6 yrs and never seen one before & the friend has lived here much much longer and never seen one, in fact she has huge grounds with loads off trees shrubs etc and never seen one.

It is a fairly common moth- certainly around me, as is the Narrow-bordered 5-spot Burnet Moth. The distinctive larvae feed on Bird'sfoot Trefoil + related plants.
The bright colour of the adullts advertise the fact they are unplatable to birds + other predators as they accumulate cyanide based chemicals from the food plant. Don't worry about having it on your hand though!  |
