| |  1 Moth and 1 caterpillar for ID
Good afternoon,
Wondering if someone can help me ID these 2, both about 10mm long. Sorry I don't know the ID of the purple flowers the caterpillar is on. Both found in Norfolk garden.

Not sure about the moth - would have to go and look it up, but think the caterpillar is a hoverfly larva. |

interesting  If I placed the hover-fly maggot into a container with some aphids how well would it do? would it pupate in soil?

Wow I just went outside to get it and now I'm watching it eating some aphids, very interesting to watch.

A true gardeners' friend 
Don't know the answer to your pupation question, but it might either pupate on the vegetation or fall off into the soil. In fact, I know very little about hoverfly life cycles  |

Wow it ate all the aphids I gave it over night, that's a lot of aphids lol. I had better go in search of some more.
When it pupates I wonder how long it would take until it emerges?
