| | | Orange hairy micro Well it's sort of orange!
It was on a shady side of a greenhouse on 23rd May, near an apple tree and Horse Chestnut tree but there's plenty of other trees around. Nose to wing bottom about 10mm. I can't find it anywhere, help!

| | | Re: Orange hairy micro I think this is in Oecophoridae, but I can't find an exact match.
The closest I could find is Agonopterix kuznetzovi but that is highly unlikely. It could be an Agonopterix sp. though.
This has a very small head.. any ideas at all anyone? I've searched about every site I know of. The other close one I found is Agonopterix carduella

Guy | Thank you Guy! I think you are correct, the small head and hairs seem to fit at least as well as the shape. I had thought it was a tortrix at first, but those curved up little palps fooled me!
I can't find one which is covered in hairs like mine, that is the only problem and it appears there is only one species of Ptycholoma here or anywhere. They are a pest of apples, which it was near. This Russian site gives a diescription, the one thing which is sticking out like a sore thumb is the prothoracic scuttelum is supposed to be light brown! Mine is obviously well and truly covered in orange hairs. Maybe I have a new species? ROFLOL! AgroAtlas - Pests - Ptycholoma lecheana (Linnaeus) - Leche's Twist Moth

| | | Re: Orange hairy micro Oh heck, there's other things bothering me about this species. I had noticed the wings don't seem to have the same shape at the end, and we all know with moths these small features are crucial to ID!
Look at the pics on Eakring Birds, the wing tips look more pointed. Looking at the back view of mine the wings curve in before the tip, on Ptycholoma lecheana the leading edge looks straight to the tip on the side view but on the back view looks to be a little curved. Maybe it's just the postion? Ptycholoma lecheana
