| | | Day flying moth ID : yellow body I posted this on butterfly, but as there are only 50 odd species of butterfly and this did not resemble them in terms of colour I am over here now.
It was flying during the day.
Its body was bright yellow with black dots on it.
Not hairy.
It was more than 30mm but not as big as 60mm in terms of wingspan.
Its wings were open on landing, and were configured more like a butterfly rather than swept back.
Predominately white, but with dark veins creating a chequerboard pattern. At the wing tip of the "front wings" it was a brown/orange patch. Other areas of the wing also seemed to have a coloured pattern on it, but without a camera, I cannot be more specific. |

| | | Re: Day flying moth ID : yellow body Thanks for the thought but the wings were white and set like a butterflies rather than swept back.
The vein markings were more pronounced as was the colour of the yellow. Not as hairy either. |

| | | Re: Day flying moth ID : yellow body Not the one, I am afraid.
The body was a vibrant yellow and the black spots on it stood out much more.
The wings were predominately white, with dark vein patterns. The patches of colour within the wings, were like a stain glass window in appearance. Although for the most part the wings were simply white. |

| | | Re: Day flying moth ID : yellow body Perhaps it was some sort of Magpie moth variant, as it is the closest thing I have seen to what I saw in terms of body colour and markings.
The wings are wrong on the Magpie to what I saw, which had more of a stain glass structure to them. Although the wings were mostly white with the odd dash of colour in them.
Without a picture though, seems this is going to be tough to identify.
Typically my camera was in my jacket hanging up 15 feet away when I spotted it. Curses to sunny weather | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
